Weather
Daytime temperatures in August typically range between the 60s and 70s, while nighttime temperatures can drop to the mid-40s or low 50s. The coastal areas around Seward tend to be cooler than the interior regions near Denali and Talkeetna.
While exploring glaciers or during boat tours in the fjords, temperatures can feel significantly cooler, so layers are essential even on warm days. Be prepared for the occasional rain shower, though many July days offer clear skies with spectacular mountain views and extraordinary extended daylight hours – up to 19-22 hours depending on your location within the state!
This abundance of daylight gives you maximum time to witness Alaska’s stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife.
Intensity- Moderate
Requires a basic fitness level; intermittent periods of activity. Generally easy trails, some uneven surfaces, and minor elevation changes. Expect moderate walking for up to 5 hours per day, up to 6 miles. Suitable for beginners and those with some experience.
Accommodations
- Two nights at a cabin in Denali
- Two nights at a cabin in Talkeetna
- Three nights at a yurt in Seward

Day One
Arrive in Anchorage by mid-afternoon, where your guides will greet you with warm Alaskan hospitality. Meet your fellow adventurers before journeying to our cozy mountain cabins just outside of Denali National Park. After settling in, stretch your legs on a warm-up hike along the Nenana River Trail, a beautiful riverside walk that offers great first views of the surrounding mountains and flowing glacial waters.

Day Two
Today we challenge ourselves with a full day on Denali’s magnificent Triple Lakes Trail – a 9.5-mile journey through the park’s diverse landscapes. We’ll traverse pristine forests, cross crystal-clear streams, and skirt the shores of three alpine lakes, all while surrounded by breathtaking mountain panoramas. Watch for golden eagles soaring overhead and Dall sheep navigating distant ridgelines as we enjoy our trailside picnic lunch with views that stretch to the horizon. After our invigorating day in the wilderness, we’ll return to our accommodations for a well-deserved feast and evening relaxation, perhaps catching the alpenglow on Denali’s distant peak if weather permits

Day Three
After breakfast, we’ll bid farewell to Denali National Park and journey to the historic frontier town of Talkeetna, known for its quirky charm and stunning mountain views. Here, an extraordinary Alaskan experience awaits – working directly with a legendary six-time Iditarod champion team! We’ll immerse ourselves in the world of dog mushing, learning the ancient techniques that have connected humans and canines in this harsh landscape for centuries. The highlight comes when you take the reins yourself, mushing your own team on specialized dryland racing rigs. Feel the exhilaration as your eager team propels you forward, and enjoy one-on-one time with these incredible athletes while capturing unforgettable photos of this quintessential Alaskan experience.

Day Four
Today, we’ll discover one of Alaska’s best-kept secrets – Denali State Park offers the most spectacular views of the massive Denali peak that many visitors never experience! We’ll spend the day exploring hidden trails through boreal forests and alpine meadows bursting with wildflowers. Our destination is a breathtaking viewpoint where, weather permitting, we’ll be rewarded with the most impressive vistas of Denali’s towering 20,310-foot summit and the entire Alaska Range stretching across the horizon. Our guides will help interpret the dramatic landscape, pointing out features carved by ancient glaciers and sharing the rich ecological and cultural significance of this extraordinary region. After returning, spend time wandering Talkeetna’s historic Main Street, local shops, and riverside viewpoints.

Day Five
Early this morning, we’ll say goodbye to Talkeetna and make the 4-hour drive to Seward. The highlight of our journey is our visit to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, where we’ll observe magnificent bears, powerful musk oxen, elusive wolves, majestic moose, and other iconic Alaskan wildlife up close in their expansive natural habitats. After arriving in the picturesque port town of Seward, we’ll settle into our yurt accommodations.

Day six
Prepare for an unforgettable day of exploration as we embark on our Aialik Glacier adventure! We’ll board a specialized wildlife tour boat, cruising into the heart of Kenai Fjords National Park. Keep your cameras ready as our captain navigates through waters frequented by humpback whales, playful sea otters, curious Steller sea lions, and colonies of seabirds. Upon reaching Aialik Bay, we’ll don our gear and launch our stable sea kayaks for an intimate glacier encounter. The thundering cracks of calving ice will echo across the water as we paddle amid floating icebergs, watching in awe as massive chunks of ancient blue ice crash into the sea from the towering glacier face – a powerful reminder of nature’s ongoing transformation of this remarkable landscape.
Meals: B, L, D
Day seven
Our final full day starts with a visit to the Alaska SeaLife Center to learn about local marine ecosystems and rescued animals. We’ll even go behind the scenes in their aviary to meet the puffins and other resident bird species! After, we will embark on one of Alaska’s most rewarding hikes – the legendary Harding Icefield Trail. We’ll ascend through lush meadows, fragrant hemlock forests, and rocky alpine terrain to reach breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the vast Harding Icefield – a prehistoric ice sheet stretching over 700 square miles that feeds nearly 40 glaciers. This challenging hike offers unparalleled views and a profound sense of Alaska’s raw, untamed power.
Tonight, we’ll celebrate with a special farewell dinner featuring local delicacies and toast to the unforgettable experiences and friendships forged in Alaska.

Do I need to tip my guide?
Tipping is a common way to say thanks to your guides for all their hard work. While it’s never expected, it’s always appreciated! A good rule of thumb is to tip 10-20% of the total trip cost, split among the guides. Alternatively, many guests choose to tip $25-$50 per day, per guide. You can either autopay gratuity when checking out, or you can pay the guide in person. Ultimately, the amount is up to you and should reflect the level of service you feel you received. Whatever you choose, the guides will appreciate it!
